Spontaneous Teamwork at its Best

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

Today was quite a shocker.

After a wonderful session this morning followed by some self practice in the sun & after Mahima had finished her morning yoga class, we decided to go out for breakfast.

As I was getting ready, in a nice calm mood, Sharanya came running upstairs in a frantic mood & in a very serious manner. Usually, we always have funny & slightly hilarious exchanges, so this time I called her name out, as I always do, in a slightly playful way; but she was all serious and began screaming "Leo fell in the well. I'm SERIOUS. LEO FELL IN THE WELL. Come DOWN Now!!"

As these words began to register in my mind, I immediately got into a serious mood & instantly began descending the stairs with Mahima & Sharanya.

Upon reaching downstairs, the well was already surrounded by Sharanya's Mum, Dad, Grandmother & another worker. Simultaneously, a Russian sister who stays right below our place also got into this energy and asked me what had happened. After I mentioned the same to her, she too followed us down to help.

Once I came near the well, it was instant horror to see this little guy clutching on to the sides of the deep well, holding on to dear life, meowing helplessly.

They told me later that after he saw me and heard my voice, he became a little calmer but was really quite frantic before that.

At the same time, it was quite miraculous to see how everyone got together to work to bring the poor fellow out.

Our first attempt to get him out didn't work at all. We lowered a plastic gunny bag into the well hoping that it would do the trick, but it obviously didn't. I immediately asked around if there was a cloth gunny bag or something that he could strongly hold on to. But to no luck there was nothing around.

When he tried to catch on to the plastic bag, he began to slip and by then he lost his grip. He was frantically swimming around, trying to hold on to something. But everything felt slippery after that, & by then his wet fur was heavy & pulling him down. At this point my heart grew slightly tense & I was contemplating going into the well to bring him out myself.

Suddenly Sharanya's mother came out with a nice long plastic cylindrical laundry bucket. Her Dad & I instantly got on the job and tied a rope to it. Once done, we lowered it into the well quickly & by luck, the li'l fellow got into it, but just on the edge.

As we began lifting him, he was clinging on to dear life, hoping to not fall down again. We had to do it slow and steady; once near the top, he immediately clung to the metal grills placed over the well.

Now again he was in a pickle as he couldn't fit in through the grills. Mahima held him from above as I held him below & we slowly had to unlock his Superman grip on the grills and carry him out through the main opening.

*"Phew"*

Everyone heaved a strong sigh of relief as he jumped out of my hands and went running towards to sun light. There was a nice release of high pressure energy after that and everything felt calm & joyful again.

There were surely few scary moments in there. Moments of intense pressure on us all. Moments that showed ourselves truly who we are.

& What was more amazing to see was how everyone came together as a team and overcame this situation together. That was brilliant.

Very grateful to have this boy safe and sound & very grateful to everyone involved to work so much in synch with one another to see that happen. Spontaneous Team-work at it best.

Here's little Leo, all calm and peaceful, resting after the whole ordeal.
